Solidarity beyond Borders!

Today, 595 women who have worked in the Ministry of Finance in Greece as janitors will be fired and replaced by private subcontractors.

We, the Transnational Care Meeting, send you, our solidarity from Vienna, Austria. We are part of the European wide action days against the austerity policies carried by the Troika. It is exactly these policies that destroy both public services and the social infrastructure of care work and which affect especially women in drastic ways. It deprives people of their work, their means of living, their possibility to participate in society. It is the radicalisation of policies that ignores the most fundamental human needs. As activists involved in the care sector and in care struggles, we especially try to build up and strengthen democratic, self-organised forms of care work and defend public infrastructure against neoliberal attacks through privatisation and austerity. And we are in deep solidarity with all movements and initiatives that build up resistance against the dominant crisis politics and its devastating social impact. Even though it might seem sometimes that we are isolated, split up between those countries that benefit from the crisis and those who have to bear the costs, we are part of a movement beyond borders, forming the basis for a Europe from below. All together we care!
